There is an old belief – and all beliefs are distilled from years of experience and wisdom. So, this old belief that, we do not see the World as the World is, but see the World as we are … is an incredible belief. I just love both this belief and the story, I am about to tell you.
An old man was sitting outside a village and a man on horseback was passing by and he asked the old man: ‘’Sir, what are the people in this village like?’’. The old man munching his sugarcane, said to him: “What were the people in the village from where you are coming, like?’’ The traveler said: “Sir, they were beautiful people, loving, kind, considerate, concerned, helpful, and very nice. I am going to miss them because I am looking for a new village to settle in.” The old man said to him, ‘’Young man, the people in this village are exactly like the people you are describing in your village.” The traveler moved on, on his way.
A few days later, the old man was sitting right there under the same tree outside his village, munching this time a raw cucumber and enjoying his life. Another man stopped and said, ‘’Hey old man’’, the old man looked at him and smiled, ‘’What are the people in this village like!’’. The old man smiled even more and said, ‘’What were the people in your village like? “The second traveler said that they were nasty, they were rude, they were atrocious, they were ill-behaved, not helpful, and a bunch of rouges. And the old man smiled at him and said Sir, ‘’The people in this village are exactly like that!’’
The story ends here.
And it depicts so clearly, that as we are within, so we see outside. What is inside us gets projected onto others. It’s got nothing to do with the outside, nothing! We see others through the filter of our own inner perceptions.
Love the beautiful things in life, lead a natural life, remain relaxed, calm, loving, and helpful, and rejoice every day of your life, in all the blessings you have been granted. Live In an Attitude of Gratitude and you will see wonders happen.
Good luck!
